    The Baker Trail was established in under the sponsorship of the Pittsburgh Council of the American Youth Hostels. Named for Pittsburgh attorney Horace Forbes Baker, the trail originally began in Aspinwall on the north shore of the Allegheny River just across from Pittsburgh and, after crossing the Allegheny at Freeport. The Mountaineers just published a wonderful book titled "The North Cascades, finding beauty and renewal in the wild nearby".It encompasses the entire bio region that is the North Cascades range from Leavenworth, WA to Hope, BC and from the Mount Baker wilderness, through North Cascades National Park east to the Methow.

The Bay to Baker Trail is a proposed countywide trail system. When complete, the trail will cover 74 miles between Bellingham and the Mount Baker ski area, providing hike, bike and some horse trail opportunities on former railroad, logging road, and other established corridors.

After a long day at the office, the Bay to Baker Trail offers a convenient dose of nature right in the heart of Bellingham. Although still in its infancy, this rails-to-trails conversion will eventually extend 74 miles from Bellingham Bay to the Mount Baker Ski Area.3/5.

Bay to Baker Trail. Description. The City is working on acquiring land along the abandoned railway between Roeder Avenue and Meridian Street. This acquisition and development will provide the missing link connection for this trail corridor, which will connect the Irongate neighborhood with Bellingham Bay.
